A recent study has underscored the importance of certain lifestyle habits that can significantly increase the likelihood of reaching the age of 100, even if adopted later in life. Here are the three habits identified by the study:
- Avoid Smoking: Individuals who never smoked were found to be 25% more likely to reach 100 compared to smokers.
- Regular Exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity, even starting later in life, can boost longevity. The study indicated that people who exercise regularly are 31% more likely to celebrate their 100th birthday.
- Diverse Diet: Adopting a varied and healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables and minimizing fast food consumption, can increase the odds of living to 100 by 23%.
Interestingly, the study did not find significant correlations between reaching 100 and factors such as body mass index (BMI) or alcohol consumption, suggesting that while maintaining a healthy weight and moderate drinking may contribute to overall well-being, they might not be as critical for longevity as previously thought.
