South Florida girl, 8, wounded in drive-by shooting; 2 suspects arrested

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — An 8-year-old girl was wounded on Friday in a drive-by shooting in South Florida, authorities said.

Two teenagers are in custody after the shooting in Fort Pierce at about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, TCPalm.com reported. the victim had injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

According to Fort Pierce Police Department spokesperson April Lee, Ty Jheer Reeves, 18, and a 15-year-old boy, both of Fort Pierce, were arrested after video and residents helped identify them, according to the news outlet.

According to the investigators, the victim and two other children were sitting in their vehicle, WPTV reported. As other family members were getting into the vehicle, two suspects driving a white-colored vehicle shot at the car before fleeing the scene, according to the television station.

The girl was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, TCPalm.com reported. Police do not believe the child was the intended target, according to the news outlet.
