Recall alert: 10,500 toddler bottles and cups recalled over lead poisoning risk

More than 10,000 toddler bottles and cups have been recalled over lead poisoning concerns, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The base of the cups and bottles can come off and expose a solder spot that contains lead, the CPSC said in its warning. The spot can pose a poison hazard to anyone using the cup.

The cups are manufactured by Green Sprouts.

“Lead is toxic if ingested by young children, and can cause adverse health effects,” the commission said.

The recalled bottles and cups come in 6- and 8-ounce sizes, and were sold at Buy Buy Baby, Whole Foods stores, Amazon,,, and Bed Bath & Beyond from January 2020 through September 2022, the CPSC said.

So far, no injuries have been reported, but the company is aware of seven incidents in which the base of a cup or bottle broke off.

The CPSC is urging parents to take the bottles and cups away from children and throw them out.

“There is negligible risk to the health and safety of users,” the company said in a statement on its website. “We are undertaking the costs and challenges of this recall voluntarily because our customers’ health and safety must come first.”

“Exposure to lead can seriously harm a child’s health,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The exposure can damage the brain and nervous system, leading to “slowed growth and development, learning and behavior problems, and hearing and speech problems,” the agency said.
