Annually since 1928, the weekly news magazine has recognized an individual or group the country believes has had “the greatest influence on the events of the year -- for better or worse.” The award was originally called Man or Woman of the Year but was changed to Person of the Year in 1999.

This year’s winner, from a field of 80 nominees, will be announced Dec. 10, according to The Hill.

Greta Thunberg, the Swedish schoolgirl who inspired a global movement to fight climate change, was named Time’s Person of the Year in 2019.

This year’s list includes Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, along with essential workers that include medical, police and firefighting personnel.

In the political field, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Adams, President-elect Joe Biden, President Donald Trump, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Witmer and Vice President Mike Pence are nominees.

Black Lives Matter activists were also nominated as a group.

In the entertainment field, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Ariana Grande and the South Korean pop group BTS are nominees.

Sports figures nominated include WNBA basketball star Sue Bird, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace, NBA star LeBron James and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
