BRANSON, Mo. — Missouri authorities are looking for the next of kin of a woman whose skeletal remains were discovered by a mushroom hunter last month.

The remains discovered April 10 have been positively identified as those of Deborah Brown. Brown, who would have turned 63 this year, is believed to have last been seen alive in 2017, according to the Branson Police Department.

“Police are now asking for the public’s help to locate next of kin, friends or anyone who may have any information about her,” police officials said Friday in a statement.

Brown’s cause of death has not yet been determined.

“Branson police detectives, the Taney County coroner and the county’s pathologist continue to investigate this case to determine cause of death and to bring closure to Deborah’s family,” the statement read.

Authorities said last month that a mushroom hunter stumbled upon Brown’s remains in a wooded area near Gretna Road and State Hwy. 248 in Branson. It was unclear how long the remains had been there.

Investigators have been able to determine that Brown previously lived in Illinois. She is believed to have moved to Missouri around 2014.
