Lance Kerwin, ‘James at 15,’ ‘Salem’s Lot,’ star, dead at 62

Actor Lance Kerwin, who starred in the 1970s television drama “James at 15″ and was a vampire hunter in “Salem’s Lot,” died Tuesday. He was 62.

Kerwin died in San Clemente, California, according to Variety. His death was also confirmed in a Facebook post by his daughter, Savanah Kerwin. No cause of death was given.

“As the coming weeks progress, I will share more information about after-life ceremonies,” she wrote. “He loved each and every one of you.”

Kerwin began his career as a child actor, and was known for his role as James Hunter in the series “James at 15,” which became “James at 16′ during its second season, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The series caused some controversy after an episode in which Hunter engages in premarital sex and loses his virginity, Variety reported. The episode resulted in thousands of letters protesting the subject, the entertainment news website reported.

Kerwin’s first major role came in the 1975 series “The Family Holvak,” which depicted life in Tennessee during the 1930s, People reported. In 1976, he starred in the drama “The Loneliest Runner.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Kerwin’s other television credits included “Wonder Woman,” “Little House on the Prairie,” “Murder, She Wrote,“ ”The New Lassie” and “Insight.” He also appeared in the television movies “The Boy Who Drank Too Much” and “Children of Divorce.”

Kerwin also appeared in the 1995 movie “Outbreak,” and he returned to the screen in the 2022 movie “The Wind & the Reckoning,” Variety reported.
