Body washes ashore on South Carolina beach

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. — The body of an unidentified person was found dead Saturday on the shore of the Isle of Palms beach in Charleston County, South Carolina WSOC-TV reported.

Isle of Palms Police Chief Kevin Cornett said the department received a call around 12:30 p.m. regarding a swimmer who had potentially drowned.

Upon arriving, officials determined the person was already dead and had likely drowned prior to Saturday, WCIV-TV reported.

Cornett said officials believe the death may have been related to a recent incident on Sullivan’s Island less than 10 miles away. A man went missing near the island Friday night and officials had been searching for the man, Sullivan’s Island Town Administrator Andy Benke said.

An investigation is underway.
