I had just started in radio in 1994 when Bush’s debut album Sixteen Stone dropped and took the world by storm. Not really a grunge band, Bush was a heavy rock band that was heavier than most grunge bands at the time, but also more melodic than most bands of any kind. The songwriting alone on Everything Zen, Little Things, Comedown, Glycerine, Machinehead, and a lesser known song, but my personal favorite from the album, Alien, were another level for the era. The album went 6x platinum.

And Bush was not a 1 and done band either. Their 2nd album Razorblade Suitcase also went platinum on the strength of the singles Greedy Fly and Swallowed, which is still a fan favorite today.

Their 3rd album The Science of Things started the band’s venture into different sounds including electronic with the hit The Chemicals Between Us.

The band did officially break up in 2002, but later reunited in 2010. Founding members Nigel Pulsford and Dave Parsons both decided not to rejoin the band, however. Bush released 4 more albums and then a greatest hits in 2023 called: Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023.

And in 2024 Bush came rocking back with another new album I Beat Loneliness which showcases some of the band’s heaviest music to date, and I think some of their best songs in decades, including the Title track, and another song called Scars, both of which you can watch below.

So when I got the chance to interview Gavin I was all hell yeah! And we talked about how the band has stuck around, how his knees are doing, why the band needs so much ice backstage on tour and its not for drinks, and much more! Listen to the whole thing right here.
