Listen To Tom Petty’s Isolated Vocals From One Of His Most Personal Songs, “I Won’t Back Down”

Shortly before Tom Petty went into the studio to record “Full Moon Fever” in 1989, and arsonist set fire to his house. He and his family made it out safe and alive, but it left him pretty messed up emotionally, as it would anybody. In response he wrote and recorded “I Won’t Back Down.” Originally even Tom wasn’t a fan of the song, and was unsure of it being on the album, But years later he would say in an interview that it was the one song of his that more people connected with than any of his other songs.

Now someone has used modern technology to strip away the music and lay his, and the backing singers, vocal tracks out by themselves. If you’ve ever wanted to virtually be in the studio with Tom Petty recording his music, this is as close as you’ll get.
