This year will probably see the fewest events happening around or about the Super Bowl solely due to the pandemic, and no crowds being allowed at many places. But Shaquille O’Neal’s “Shaq Bowl” is happening instead of “Shaq’s Fun House” this year. The fun house started in 2019 at the big game and returned last year. This year because crowds aren’t allowed, he’s doing something similar without the fans that will stream live on Facebook and at the official “Shaq Bowl” website.
Here’s a video from the previous years fun house party:
So what’s Shaq got planned for Sunday? Well for starters, the bowl is being filmed live at a custom built studio in Tampa. It will be hosted by Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Owens, DJ Carnage, and Sarah Walsh, along with Shaq himself of course. Shaq says that since most of the pre-game stuff you normally see on TV can be so boring, his words not mine, he decided to throw a pre game show that was way more fun.
“I’ve been watching football for a long time and the pregame stuff has always been boring. So we’re going to change it, especially with everyone at home this year. We’re going do something that’s fun and entertaining,” O’Neal said.
So there are 2 teams, a Team Tampa Bay and a Team Kansas City. Team Kansas City features Diplo, Steve-O, and Ezekiel Elliott among others, while Team Tampa Bay features Anthony Anderson, Nelly, the WWE’s The Miz and Drew McIntyre, Tim Tebow and more.
But what are these random collections of somewhat celebrities going to do? Funny you should ask!
There will be a hot wing challenge, a dance challenge, a sit up challenge, a surf’s up challenge, a tug of war, dodgeball, and a pass the ball challenge featuring football, basketball, golf, and more. Shaq will even arm wrestle Sasquatch at some point because why not? And yes, there will be a musical halftime show featuring a “superstar surprise guest in a one-of-a-kind performance”
But the coolest part of the whole thing, at least for us local Tampa peeps will be a really cool restaurant challenge.
The “Pepsi Restaurant Battles will showcase 4 local Tampa restaurants – Datz, Harpoon Harry’s, 7th + Grove & BubbaQue’s – competing to create their Big Game specials for their chance to win a $10,000 grant from the Pepsi Stronger Together Foundation. SHAQ will taste test the best Tampa has to offer, and help choose the winners!”
You can watch the whole show live on Facebook starting at 3 ET on Sunday February 7th, by going to Shaq’s page @Shaq, or it will also stream on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Tik Tok, Shaqbowl.com, and more.
