Drunk driving is such a serious problem that many people don’t even realize how easy it is to break this law. DUIs and DWIs can be issued in ways you never thought possible. Recently in Melbourne, FL a man was arrested for DUI while inside a Walmart on one of the store’s electric mobility scooters for people with walking issues. He had been running into the shelves and police found an open bottle of vodka in his backpack in the scooter’s basket.
But that’s not the only strange way someone’s been arrested for “driving” under the influence. Here’s a list of some of the craziest ways people have gone to jail for it:
An Amish man was arrested for driving while intoxicated in his horse-drawn buggy after drinking about 12 beers.
A Michigan man was charged with DUI for driving his lawnmower home from the liquor store during a snowstorm.
An Australian man was arrested for riding his skateboard intoxicated.
A UK man was arrested for DUI for driving a pink Barbie car.
A Florida man was arrested driving a go-kart at 4:00 in the morning because he wanted to go to McDonald’s.
In a Christmas parade a man was driving one of the parade floats drunk, passed another float, sped off, and after driving another float and its riders for three miles, he finally stopped, fought with police, and was then, of course, arrested.
A New York man was charged with DUI after police saw him swerving on the sidewalk on a motorized cooler, probably with more booze inside keeping cool.
In Spain, a disabled man was stopped by police while driving his motorized bed down the road, on his way to see a local prostitute.
In Germany, a man in a wheelchair was arrested for DUI and was 10x over the legal limit.
And one of my personal favorites has happened multiple times in multiple states. Many people have gotten DUI’s while riding a horse or other animal drunk! How they consider it a DUI on an animal that can control itself is still up for debate in many places, except these 3: In Florida a Lakeland woman was arrested for it, in California the CHP arrested a man on the highway for it, and in what should come as no surprise, its happened multiple times just in Texas including in Austin, Dallas, and in Houston where 2 men were arrested at the same time, one on a horse and one on a mule.
In other words, if you’re going to drink, make sure you have someone sober who will transport you home, and that someone has to be human apparently.
