I love it when someone with skills and good digital audio software pulls out isolated tracks from some of my favorite artists and songs. This time we have Mick Mars’ isolated guitars from Kickstart My Heart. And I love this even more being a guitar player and being able to hear how he layered some of these riffs on tape.

Mick is one of my favorite guitarists because he’s freakin’ amazing, AND because he can rock really simple riffs that sound so full and complicated, but are actually not hard at all to pull off for a medium level guitarist, like myself. Plus his solos have never sounded like many guitarists who don’t care what their solo does for the song, it only stands as a chance for them to say “listen to how good I am...” or something stupid like that. Mick’s solos are about the song being lifted to another level, and respect the hell out of that. And while there are clearly a couple overdubs, mostly this is just Mick and just 1 track.

Mick’s always been more of a Fender player, and instead of his normal Strat we usually see him with, he’s playing a Telecaster in the video. whether or not he recorded it with a Tele I don’t know. But its rad to hear this and hear how he laid it down in the studio.
