The Super Bowl In Tampa Bay Will Feature The NFL’s First Female Official, Sarah Thomas

In a year with some very notable firsts, Sarah Thomas is one for the history books.

2021 is only three weeks in so far and we just inaugurated America’s first female vice president, and vice president of color and Asian descent. Now the sports world’s biggest stage is following suit with the NFL’s first female official in the Super Bowl! Sarah Thomas will be the first woman to ever officiate the big game, and its all happening right here in Florida, in Tampa Bay at the Bucs home field, Raymond James Stadium. Unfortunately most of us won’t be there live to see it, but I can guarantee that millions will be watching her on TV.

Sarah is a down judge and this will cap off her 6th season as an NFL official, which is an awesome feat all by itself. Sarah has officiated 92 regular season games and got her first playoff game in 2018 in the Patriots/Chargers game. So if the Bucs make it to the Super Bowl this year, which right now is still a possibility, Sarah will be officiating for another Tom Brady team.

Even if the Bucs don’t make it, I want to say a huge congratulations to Sarah for advancing equality in America’s favorite sport. So no matter who ends up playing in the game of all games, everyone can root for Sarah. That’s a happy ending to the weirdest NFL season on record.
