November 24th, 1978, WKRP In Cincinnati Airs The Turkey Episode

“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”

Those of us in radio have a rather unhealthy relationship with the show WKRP In Cincinnati. For many of us it was a catalyst to launch our own radio careers. And from behind the scenes, the show was pretty spot on to the radio biz. Especially the way we’ve all come up with what we thought were genius promotional ideas at the time, that later proved us so very, very, wrong. But I still haven’t had anything go as bad as the turkey drop went on the show. To be perfectly honest, that show was fairly spot on to the radio business. With the exception of computers and slightly newer equipment, it hasn’t changed a whole lot since then.

Many of you remember this episode too, I’m sure. So take a step back in time with me for a few minutes, or 42 years to be exact, to relive one of the funniest moments in TV history.

(Side note: My former morning show partner back in Texas was Wes Nessman, and no Nessman isn’t his real last name, that’s how deep this show is to us radio peeps.)
