Check Out A Really Good Cover Of Rush’s “Spirit Of Radio” By The Polyphonic Spree

The Polyphonic Spree might be a name you don’t know, or at least you don’t think you know. Its the band where everybody often wears white robes when they perform, kinda like a cult of some kind but with music. Front man Tim Delaughter was formerly the front man for another band called Tripping Daisy out of Dallas. Growing up in Texas and jamming all things alternative in the 90′s Tripping Daisy was a huge band for me and my friends. You may know their biggest hit song ever “I’ve Got A Girl” that was played all over MTV and radio when it hit.

After Tripping Daisy dissolved, Tim started the band he’s currently with, The Polyphonic Spree. They’re an eclectic group that do whatever they feel like doing. And tomorrow, Friday April 16th, they’re dropping a covers album with a bunch of great songs on it including a pretty damn impressive version of “Spirit Of Radio” from Rush. You can listen to that right here. And while Tim’s voice is a similar register as Geddy’s, some of you may not care for it, but the music is spot on in their version in my opinion.

Here’s the full track listing of the album they’re calling “Afflatus” which opens with one of my favorite songs ever, INXS’s “Don’t Change”, and swings wildly from the Stones to Barry Manilow.
