Woods, 45, posted on Twitter for the first time since wrecking Tuesday in Los Angeles County, after golfers participating in the final round of the PGA Tour’s WGC-Workday Championship donned red and black to honor him. The 15-time major tournament champion is known for wearing a red polo shirt and black slacks during the final rounds of tournaments.

“It is hard to explain how touching today was when I turned on the tv and saw all the red shirts,” Woods said Sunday. “To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time.”

Sheriff’s deputies said Woods was driving a 2021 Genesis GV90 on Tuesday morning when he apparently lost control of the SUV, crossed a center median and hit a curb, causing the vehicle to roll over. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which Sheriff Alex Villanueva described last week as “purely an accident.”

Officials believe speed may have played a factor in the wreck, which happened on a curvy, steep stretch of road in the Los Angeles suburbs.

“That stretch of road has had quite a few accidents over the years,” Villanueva said Wednesday.
