Texas go-kart accident kills 1 child, injures 5 others

COLLEGE MOUND, Texas — One child was killed and five others were injured Saturday after an SUV crashed into a go-kart on a Texas road, authorities said.

The go-kart contained six children, ranging in age from 7 to 12 years old, WFAA reported.

According to a tweet from the College Mound Fire Department, firefighters were called to assist the Kaufman Fire Department at about 12:32 p.m. local time.

State troopers said the go-kart was traveling westbound when it was hit in an intersection by an SUV traveling south on a road located about 36 miles east of Dallas.

One child was pronounced dead at the scene, three children were airlifted to an area hospital and two others were transported by ground, KTVT reported. The driver of the SUV was not injured, the television station reported.

Police have not released the names of the children or the driver.
