Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney signed tax rebates? Nope, it was error

Mickey Mouse usually doesn’t give money away, but he and Walt Disney’s signatures appear on sales tax refund checks in Rhode Island.

The state sent more than 175 tax refund checks with the signatures of Disney and the main mouse, The Associated Press reported.

It wasn’t a joke, but rather a mistake.

Mickey’s and Walt’s names appear on test files, but not normally on real checks, and the test signatures were mistakenly sent to the real checks, WPRI reported.

Instead, the checks should have had the names of General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and State Controller Peter Keenan.

The corrected checks will be expected to be in the hands of the people eligible for the refunds next week, WJAR reported.

The Mickey Mouse checks have all been voided, WPRI reported.
