The University of Miami released a statement early Thursday confirming the arrest of the second-year freshman, who did not play in 2020 because of a medical issue, the Miami Herald reported.

Williams, 20, originally committed to the Florida Gators before making a surprise switch to the Hurricanes on National Signing Day. Ranked the No. 1 safety in the country and the No. 45 overall college football player in the country by ESPN, Williams was Miami’s top-ranked recruit of the 2020 class, WPLG reported.

Booking information obtained by the TV station indicated that the battery charge is being classified as a domestic violence incident.

According to a police report obtained by the Herald, Williams’ arrest stemmed from an argument with his child’s mother, who is also pregnant with his baby. The two had been living together, although they are “ex-girlfriend/boyfriend,” the report stated.

Williams is accused of grabbing the woman by the hair, throwing her onto a bed and yelling an expletive-laden order at her to leave the shared West Kendall residence. He is then accused of grabbing the woman by the hair and throwing her outside the home, causing her to hit her head on the ground, the Herald reported.

The woman was treated at an area hospital, where authorities documented “multiple bruises to her arms,” a minor bruise on her neck and two broken fingernails, the newspaper reported.

“(Williams) was immediately suspended from all team activities,’' Camron Ghorbi, assistant athletic director for communications at the University of Miami, said in a prepared statement.
