Jocelyn Fetting and Jacob Kettlewell have both been charged after a nearly year-long investigation.

Macomb County prosecutors said Fetting took the drugs with the intent to sell them, WDIV reported.

Kettlewell took “an occasional pill” from the office to consume it, according to officials.

County Executive Mark Hackel, who had served as county sheriff in the past, grew concerned over the medical examiner’s drug disposal process where prescription drugs were brought to the morgue’s property room with bodies in some cases when a person’s death was investigated.

He said the sheriff’s office wasn’t part of the drugs’ disposal, The Detroit News reported.

WJBK said officials received an anonymous tip last April that led to the sheriff’s office investigation.

The investigation uncovered that 19 people had access to the property room, WDIV reported.

The chain of drug custody was a potential issue and when investigators interviewed employees, they said Fetting and Kettlewell admitted to taking the medications.

The pair were fired in December, WJBK reported.

Officials said 1,200 pills were taken from the room in all, WJBK reported

Fetting is charged with conspiracy with intent to deliver and other felonies.

Kettlewell is charged with larceny and use of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors.
