Briscoe, 38, whose real name is Jamin Pugh, was one of two people who died in a car crash in Delaware, according to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) founder and Ring of Honor (ROH) owner Tony Khan.

“Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away,” Khan wrote. “Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We’ll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin.”

The Shore News Beacon reported that an emergency services call Tuesday described an accident where “four patients were trapped” near Laurel, Delaware, and that there were two fatalities and “two critical patients” with one of those patients referred to as “pediatric.”

According to the Wrestling Observer, the accident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday. Two children were in the car with Briscoe, according to Wrestling Observer, and one was seriously injured. Ringside News reported that a woman in another vehicle died at the scene.

One report said Pugh was returning home from a cheerleading event with his daughter.

In 2020, Pugh posted a video showing him mirroring his daughter’s cheer/dance moves.

Laurel School District posted on Facebook on Tuesday that it would be closed on Wednesday following the incident.

“Due to an unthinkable tragedy in our community this evening, The Laurel School District will be closed for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Schools will reopen on Thursday. Please keep the Pugh family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Pugh, along with his brother, started wrestling as a teenager. The two, who wrestled as the Briscoe Brothers, held the ROH tag team title 13 times.

The two had just won the title at ROH Final Battle in December.

Wrestlers responded to Pugh’s death on social media.
