JAKARTA, Indonesia — A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck off Indonesia’s Java island on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey is reporting.

According to the agency, the quake, which occurred Friday afternoon, was centered about 55 miles southwest of Labuan at a depth of 23 miles. About 45 minutes later, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in the same area, the USGS reported.
Indonesian officials said the quakes posed no tsunami risk to the country, The Associated Press reported.
No information about possible damage or injuries was immediately available.
