Joe Biden officially secured enough electors to own a majority in the Electoral College when California certified its presidential election Friday and appointed 55 electors pledged to vote for the Democrat.
Secretary of State Alex Padilla’s formal approval of Biden’s win in California brought the President-elect’s tally of pledged electors so far to 279, according to The Associated Press. That’s just over the 270 electors needed for victory.
Voters nationwide chose Biden to serve as the 46th president of the United States following a hard-fought race with incumbent President Donald Trump, The Associated Press declared on Nov. 6. Trump has yet to concede the race.
