Dirt bike rider hits fire truck, dragged, killed

BALTIMORE — A dirt bike rider is dead after he hit a fire truck that was responding to a fire in Baltimore.

Police said the incident happened just after 7 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters were traveling south on Payson Street, the dirt bike rider was riding east on Pratt Street when the biker realized he was going to hit the fire truck, WBAL reported.

He got off the dirt bike before it hit the emergency vehicle but he was dragged under the truck and across the intersection of the two streets until the truck could fully stop, WBAL reported.

The lights and sirens were running on the truck at the time of the accident, WJZ reported.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said a group of people who witnesses thought were with the dirt bike rider picked up the bike and took it from the scene before police arrived. They left the man behind, WBAL reported.
