Report: Dodgers' Trevor Bauer loses 2 court rulings related to sexual assault case

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer lost two rulings in court on Wednesday related to his sexual assault allegations, according to the Los Angeles Times.

A judge ruled that a San Diego woman who accused Bauer of sexual assault can continue her lawsuit against him and dismissed Bauer’s defamation lawsuit against one of her former attorneys. That defamation suit being dismissed does not impact his other defamation suits related to the case.

Three women have come forward with accusations of sexual assault against Bauer, claiming that the pitcher choked them unconscious during consensual sex before assaulting them when they were out. The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office declined to press criminal charges.

Bauer has sued the San Diego woman, who was the first to come forward against him, for defamation. She has since filed a countersuit, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in two different incidents last year. Bauer argued in court that the lawsuit should not proceed, as the woman first accused him in a restraining order that was later denied.

The initial "court proceedings did not necessarily decide that Bauer did not batter or sexually assault" the woman, a judge ruled on Wednesday, meaning the suit against him can continue. That restraining order was "materially misleading," a judge previously ruled when denying it, and omitted certain texts between the two.

Bauer had filed a lawsuit against one of the woman’s former attorneys over comments he made to The Washington Post in which he claimed Bauer “brutalized” the woman. That suit was dismissed Wednesday.

Bauer hasn't pitched in an MLB game since June 2021, and he was suspended for two full seasons for violating the league's domestic violence and sexual assault policy. He has denied the allegations against him and is appealing that suspension.
