Happy National Hot Dog Day! This summer, Americans will eat 818 hot dogs per second! That’s over 7 billion hot dogs!

The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council asked Americans how to make the perfect hot dog.

75% said it must be grilled. 9% like them best over a campfire, 6% boiled, 3% steamed, 2% fried in a pan, and 2% are fine with their hot dog being microwaved (that should be illegal).

What do you put on the perfect hot dog? 68 percent top their dogs with mustard, followed by 61% choosing ketchup, 44% love onions, 41% relish, 30% like to make it a chili dog, 29% add cheese, 20% love sauerkraut, 19% mayo, 14% bacon, 13% jalapenos, and 12% add coleslaw.

Don’t forget the napkins. If you are making the perfect hot dog, you’ll need them!
