Speaking to BBC Radio 2 in England last week Roger Taylor announced “We did find a little gem from Freddie that we’d kind of forgotten about. And it’s wonderful. Actually, it was a real discovery. It’s from ‘The Miracle’ sessions and I think it’s going to be out in September.”
The song, called Face It Alone, was recorded in 1988 and set aside. Freddie died about 2 years later. Why the song wasn’t included on the album is anybody’s guess, but it wasn’t finished yet. So when they re-discovered it, the band had their recording engineering team work some digital magic to bring it up to something good enough to be released.
There have been some clips of the song floating around the internet for years, and one group made a YouTube video combining some of those pieces and adding their own ideas of what the final piece will sound like. You can hear an unofficial version here, but remember this isn’t Queen’s song, and the real thing could be wildly different from this, but this does include some of the original bits.
You can hear Queen and many others as they performed for the Platinum Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II at this BBC 2 link.
