Its going to be a blazing hot weekend for most of Florida. And hot weekends mean beach weekends! But if you are headed to any of these beaches on the west coast, health officials are warning you to stay out of the water. Scientists have measured unhealthy and elevated levels of enterococci bacteria which can cause rashes, illnesses, and infections if you swim in the water.
The beaches affected by the “no swim” advisory for the Tampa area include Bahia Beach and Simmons Park Beach, and Pine Island in Hernando. All the Pinellas beaches including Clearwater Beach are still rated at good quality. But the Sarasota area also has these warnings added Friday July 29th:
- Bayfront Park North (water sampling site near northernmost access to the park)
- Coquina Beach North (water sampling site near Lifeguard Station Tower 5)
- Palma Sola South
- Manatee Public Beach North
And earlier in the week the department of health issued a similar warning for these area beaches:
- Bird Key Park/ Ringling Causeway
- Siesta Key Beach
- Service Club Beach
- Venice Fishing Pier
- Brohard Beach
- Casperson Beach
- Manasota Key
Blind Pass Beach, Lido Beach, and Longboat Key are all still good to go.
