Spring Break 2021 is off to a wild start for sure. Miami Beach had to enact a curfew and business closures due to crowds of thousands just destroying the area. And I’m sure that’s not going to be the end of it. Especially after these videos went viral.

It seems there was some trouble on Clearwater Beach and one college age young man had been arrested. 18 year old Dominic Glass was in cuffs in the back of the police car when 18 year old Adam Asad from Oldsmar decided he disagreed with the arrest, I guess. As the crowds often do during huge parties like this, they were all booing and antagonizing the police, who were just trying to keep the peace and the beach safe for everyone. So Asad, who I’m assuming was growing bored with his own freedom, decided to open the police car door to let Glass out. As the arresting officer was walking around to the driver’s side of his cruiser, he could not see Asad behind them reaching to open the door. But he did, and Glass took off and ran, shirtless, shoeless, and cuffed behind his back. At first it looked like it might be hard to catch him because dozens of other beachgoers followed him running behind and filming as much as they could just so we could write blogs about how dumb this was.

Now I have no idea where Glass thought he was going to go. If you’ve ever been to Clearwater Beach then you know the beach is enormous, and you can be seen running away for a very long ways. Also I’m assuming these kids thought they could outrun the police, clearly forgetting that the police train in running to catch people all the time! It’s kind of their job.

But whatever was running through their minds at the time (I’m thinking mostly White Claw and Tequila), they didn’t get far. Glass was caught literally seconds after he ran, partly because he must have realized that there were police all over the beach and he had nowhere to go, so he turned around and ran BACK TOWARDS THE COP CAR HE JUST ESCAPED FROM. Which is when the police caught him again, still cuffed, and literally dragged his butt back to being arrested, only now with an escape charge added to whatever charge he was already facing. In under 5 seconds he went from what would have probably been just a public intoxication minor infraction, to something way more serious. Way to plan for your future bud.

Here’s Chief Dan Slaughter’s word on what happened: “While many of the young adults in the video think this is funny, it has turned what would have been a very minor violation to one that will have severe consequences.”

Here’s Glass getting caught again, and dragged off the beach like a rag doll. Unfortunately for us I don’t think there’s video of Asad being arrested for his part in the dumbest decision of his life...at least so far.

Lots of people these days always say they want to go viral. Well for Dominic and Adam, you’ve succeeded.
