Go Fish: Lots of Action!

Speckled trout, Tarpon, Redfish, Snook, Snapper, and Tuna!

Go Fish: TS Andrea Shuffles The Deck

Tropical storm Andrea did not mess up the fishing as much as expected but it did reshuffle the deck. Fish may not be where they were before the storm.

Go Fish: Red Hot Inshore Flats Fishing

Inshore flats fishing continues to be red hot around the Tampa Bay area.

Go Fish: Early Season Tarpon

Flats fishing has been great this week with grand slams common and many with total inches in the 90’s and 100’s.

Go Fish: Tarpon by the Skyway

Tarpon have moved into the Skyway Bridge in big numbers. I fished with Capt. Billy Miller this week on an incoming tide and we jumped 8 tarpon and landed 4.

Go Fish: Kingfish of a Lifetime!

Tim Collins and Todd Buck caught a fish of a lifetime this week reports Capt. Rafael Rios. Fishing 20 miles off Egmont Key, using a big greenback for bait, Collins and Buck landed a 58 pound kingfish. In all my years fishing this area I can’t remember a bigger kingfish being caught around here.

Go Fish: Kingfish and Spanish Mackerel

Kingfish and Spanish Mackerel continue to be easy catches for anglers, with good catches made at and inside the Skyway Bridge.

Go Fish: The Kingfish Run is On!

Kingfish showed up in good numbers from Boca Grande to Tarpon Springs. A sure sign the kingfish run is on is when some sailfish are caught. Capt. Dane Karcher caught a seven foot sailfish slow trolling a cigar minnow in the Egmont ship channel.

Go Fish: Large Trout & Early Kings

Mellissa Helms and Alice Boullosa had a great day trout fishing in the Ft. Desoto area with Capt. Dave Markett. Using white bait, Helms and Boullosa caught and released lots of trout with the biggest measuring 24 inches.

Go Fish: Trout & Mackerel

Lots of Spanish mackerel has moved well into Tampa Bay with good reports coming in from the Gandy Bridge area and the Apollo Beach Power plant.

Go Fish: Spring Kingfish are here!

Capt. Kevin Walton reports the spring kingfish are here. Walton and friends found them at the “Betty Rose” a local wreck approximately one mile south of the South County Reef.

Go Fish: Great White Caught off John's Pass

A Great White shark was caught this week in the Gulf of Mexico off John’s Pass. Angler Fab Marchese, fishing with Capt. Joe Maisano, caught and released a 16-18 foot Great White weighing an estimated 2,500 and 3,000 pounds.

Go Fish: St. Patrick's Day-Spring Trolling Season

St. Patrick’s Day is the mythical start to the spring trolling season. Usually about this time the bait is migrating from offshore, and from the south, and with it come Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sharks, bonito and more.

Go Fish: Rising Temps and Kingfish Runs

St. Patrick’s Day is a good bench mark for the start of the kingfish run and it looks like the kings may be right on schedule.

Go Fish: Spring Flats Frenzy

John Deerin and friends, fishing with Capt. Billy Miller, loaded the boat with sheepshead up to 6 pounds fishing a shallow wreck in 6 feet of water this week. Fly lined, tail hooked shrimp cast to the edge of the structure produced instant bites during the morning tide. When the ...

Go Fish: No Down Time!

Normally this time of year I would say to organize your fishing tackle and boat repairs and get them done before the fishing picks up. It looks like we are already there. If you have put off maintenance and tackle purchases better get moving or you will be missing out on some good fishing.

Go Fish: Spring Patterns and Good Weather

Spring patterns have been working well for anglers this week. As long as the weather stays in these temperatures I see no reason for it to change.

Go Fish: Cold weather and red tide?

Speckled trout was the target for Capt. Jim Huddleston and me this week. We started the day fishing the spoil islands of St. Joseph Sound on an incoming tide. Live jumbo shrimp tail hooked on a 2/0 circle hook with twenty pound leader and a small split shot lead was ...

Go Fish: Silver Trout and Sailfishing

Silver trout continue to be an easy target for anglers. Steve McGucken and family filled their cooler in the Weedon Island power plant channel. Tandem Love Lures and jig heads with a small piece of shrimp, fished along the bottom, provided nonstop action. The mouth of the Gandy Boat Ramp ...

Go Fish: Silver Trout Hunt

I took my friend Joe Savarese and “The Fishing with Bill Miller” film crew on a silver trout hunt this week. Good reports of lots of silvers along the Gulf beaches were trickling in so we gave it a try. Starting off Blind Pass and working our way to John’s ...
