The skies over Albert Whitted Airport in St. Pete will be extra kid- friendly on Saturday, January 25 as the annual Young Eagles Flight Rally welcomes bay area youth to experience the thrill and wonder of aviation. Sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), volunteer pilots will offer general aviation aircraft flights to young people between the ages of 8 – 17 on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge. The goal of the program is to inspire and nurture a passion for aviation at an early age.
Attendees can learn about the mechanics of flight, cornerstones of safety, and the many possibilities in this exciting field. Upon completion of flights with EAA member pilots, participants will receive an official log book and instructions to complete anonline training course.
Junior flight candidates should wear comfortable clothing, be in good health and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for completion of paperwork.
The Young Eagles Flight Rally is hosted by local Chapter 47 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in downtown St. Petersburg.
The EAA is an international aviation organization that launched its first Young Eagles program in 1992. Headquartered in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, EAA offers educational opportunities and even scholarships to encourage the next generation of pilots.
