Come join us in celebrating 500 years of agriculture in the state of Florida by visiting a few of Manatee County's historical agricultural operations. This is a fun-filled, daylong bus tour.$45 per person includes tour bus transportation, snacks, lunch, gratuity, and entry into all hosting sites, some which are not typically open to the public. In the 1930s they were famous for being one of the largest growers of gladiolus in the southeast. They have now expanded production to include a wide selection of ornamental flowers and potted plants. A.P. Bell Star Fish Company: this wholesale fish market started in the early 1920s and has since added a seafood market and dockside restaurant.Lunch: Enjoy your boxed lunch served by the Star Fish Dockside Restaurant while a brief history is presented on the Maritime Museum.Westcoast Tomato/McClure Farms: founded in the early 1900s, these pioneer tomato growers produce 3,700 acres of fresh market tomatoes.Strickland Ranch: 4th generation cattle ranchers with a small herd of Cracker cattle, these are a pure line of cattle traced back to the original Andalusion herds brought to Florida by the Spanish in 1521. To optimize your experience, wear boots or tennis shoes and clothing for variable temperatures. Note these are working farms; you may experience wet, uneven and rough terrain. Some items to consider: wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and rain jacket. Parking: Upon arriving at the Agriculture and Extension Office (1303 - 17th Street West, Palmetto, FL), please use the fairground entrance on 14th Avenue West. Do NOT park at the main office. Please note: There are No Refunds.Tours will go rain or shine.Arrive no earlier than 30 minutes before departure.No personal vehicles are allowed to follow buses.Buses will leave promptly at departure times.
