Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) will celebrate 40 years of service with a public open house on Saturday, August 24th from 10 a.m. to noon at Station #42, at 5209 Ehrlich Road in Tampa.
The FREE Anniversary Open House event will feature displays, fire safety education, and family friendly activities with refreshments courtesy of Hillsborough County Firefighters, Local 2294.
The HCFR Anniversary Open House will offer station tours and the chance for kids of all ages to explore trucks and rescue vehicles. The HCFR Junior Firefighter Challenge arena will let children wear real gear and practice professional firefighting such as:
In addition to the Open House, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue will commemorate its 40th Anniversary with a special ceremony on Tuesday, August 27th from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at HCFR Headquarters located ar 2711 E. Hanna Ave. in Tampa. The ceremony will feature former firefighters of distinction to recognize the agency's four decades of service and dedication to public safety through education and emergency planning initiatives.
HCFR began as an all-volunteer force in the 1950's hiring its first career, full-time firefighters in 1973. HCRF has since evolved into one of the largest, most progressive fire departments in the State of Florida.
