On February 16, 2013 at-risk youth in Hillsborough County will be showcasing visual and performing art talents in the Annual Prodigy Cultural Arts Showcase at the University Area Community Center, 14013 N. 22nd Street, Tampa, FL 33613.Prodigy is an early prevention, intervention and diversion community program designed to improve the life chances of at risk youth ages 7-17. Combining performing and visual arts with core regulation skills, the program teaches youth how to creatively express thoughts and feelings while restoring confidence. Through the arts, Prodigy youth learn teamwork in group activities, self-expression while dancing or drawing and problem-solving by working on projects. For many, Prodigy has been just what they need to make the right choices and the driving force that has shown them they can succeed.This year’s theme “CommUNITY begins with Me” celebrates 12 years of transforming young lives and improving the community.
