Lean Construction Institute Central Florida Community of PracticePresents Integrated Project Delivery - True IPD vs. IPD-ish  Speakers: Joseph L. Territo, President, Territo Electric, Inc.Ted J. Angelo, Executive Vice President, Grunau Company, Inc.  Abstract: Joe TerritoJoe will be discussing what true IPD is and how many companies are claiming to be using IPD but are not following the original intent. Thus, the savings and optimization of value are lost to the Owner. Cohesion of the project focused method is lost and it still fosters competition between trades. He will give a little history on this approach to projects and explain how to distinguish between "True" IPD from IPD-ish. He will discuss some key questions regarding a true IPD project. When are the partners selected? What type of contract is used? How does the owner benefit? These and other questions regarding IPD will be presented by one of the originators of IPD in Orlando, FL. Additional information on IPD below. Ted AngeloTed will be discussing the highlights of the LCI Annual Congress, He will be examining a case study of a hospital project, and several owners' perspective of using lean construction principals.Integrated project delivery is a delivery system that seeks to align interests, objectives and practices, even in a single business through a team-based approach. The team primary Team Members would include the Architect, key technical consultants as well as a general contractor and key subcontractors.  The IPD system is a process where all disciplines in a construction project work as one firm, creating faster delivery times, lower costs, no litigation and a more enjoyable process for the entire team - including the owner. IPD is the Trademark of the Westbrook Air Conditioning, a corporation in Florida established by Owen Matthews. IPD co-evolved with the development of Lean Construction, they both aim to optimize the project and not just the piece. IPD combines ideas from integrated practice and lean construction to solve several problems in contemporary construction such as low productivity and waste, time overruns, quality issues, and conflicts during construction among the key stakeholders of owner, architect and contractor. The growing use of building information modeling in the construction industry is allowing far greater information collaboration between project participants using IPD and considered an important tool to increasing productivity throughout the construction process.Unlike the design-build project delivery method which places the contractor in the leading role on a building project, IPD represents a return to the "master builder" concept where the entire building team including the owner, architect, general contractor, building engineers, fabricators, and subcontractors work collaboratively throughout the design/construction process. Date and Time:Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 2:00 - 5:00pm EST.Refreshments will be served Registration Assistance: central-fl-support@leanconstruction.org Visit EventBrite.com for pricing.
