Since the 1960s, little research has been conducted at Phillipe Park, the typesite of the Safety Harbor culture and the preseumed village of the early Togabaga people. A fallen tree with an exposed rootball on the largest historic platform mound at the Park, provided an opportunity for the Alliance for Weedon Island Archaeological Research and Education (AWIARE) and Central Gulf Coast Archaeological Society (CGCAS) to investigate and research the cultural material clinging to the exposed roots. This presentation by Phyllis Kolianos, M.A., RPA demonstrates how a small salvage operation can provide some new information about an important site. 2 to 3 p.m. Free; advance registration requested . Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive NE, St. Petersburg. (727) 453-6500; www.weedonislandpreserve.org. Reservation policy
