World Trade Center Tampa Bay will present former Mayor Dick Greco with the International Commerce Award at the 6th Annual Dinner rescheduled for January 18, 2013 at Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club. The award banquet, previously slated for Oct 19 2012, was rescheduled in wake of the sudden passing of Cong. Sam Gibbons who was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Tampa, Fla, December 2012… The Board of Directors of the World Trade Center Tampa Bay (WTC-TB) recognizes individuals and businesses that have contributed to internationalizing Tampa Bay. This prestigious award recognizes a leader who encourages, fosters, and cultivates international business partnerships that help to promote Tampa Bay.This year WTC Tampa Bay will honor businessman and four-time Mayor Dick Greco.  During his first two terms, 1967-1974, former Mayor Greco was the first Tampa mayor to lure major corporations to the area.  He again recruited numerous corporations and billions of dollars in developments to the city during his second two terms, from 1995-2003. Throughout his service Greco took several initiatives to position Tampa as a major international trade hub including advocating for collaborative community efforts to increase the region’s visibility. Former Mayor Greco participated in several trade missions to key regions, met with for and pushed for strengthening Tampa’s trade relationship with Central and South America. Seeing a void to fill in the international sector, Greco also began working with local leaders to establish the original World Trade Center Tampa Bay offices “Dick Greco has been a “bigger than life” contributor to Tampa and indeed the whole Area for decades,” Jack Bierley, President of WTCTB goes on to say, “He epitomizes the can -do attitude of many others who have made great things happen here, despite obstacles. He has been a primary builder and a spiritual economic and cultural leader!”Much of what defines Tampa today was made possible through Dick Greco's efforts as mayor and the Board of Directors are please to recognize him with this honor.The World Trade Center Tampa Bay will welcome Bay Area leaders, governmental officials, and corporate executives to the WTCTB Awards Banquet.
