6pm – 9pmWomen make up 51 percent of the United States population but only 17 percent of the U.S. Congress – putting our nation at 94th in the world for the percentage of women in elected office. Eckerd Professor Mary Meyer-McAleese and Emeritus Professor of Economics Linda Lucas will lead a forum that addresses questions like: What are the most persuasive reasons to support woman candidates? What difference do women legislators make? What's the best way to convince voters that electing women matters? The conversation will be followed by a screening of the documentary, “Miss Representation,” which exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. Sponsored by Eckerd College Young Democrats. Part of the 2012-13 Presidential Events Series, "Cultivating Service: People, Politics, Planet."
